Beta Walkthrough

Welcome to SAGEinfo. This short walkthrough takes you through a first pass of the system in the order a beta user should experience it: open the hub, read Getting Started, search, understand access levels, upload, and review published outputs. Each step links to the full guide for details.

Step 1 — Open the hub

Start from the home page. The hub presents the main areas of the system:

  • Collaboration Hub — the shared document archive (search, upload, and manage documents).
  • Published Outputs — approved documents that are shared publicly.
  • Roadmap — what is planned next.
  • Documentation — where you are now.

If you do not have an account yet, ask a manager or administrator for an invitation. Public registration is not available. Your role and assigned tools determine which of the next steps you can complete.

Step 2 — Read Getting Started

Spend two minutes with the Getting Started guide. It explains what SAGEinfo is, what each role can do (Basic User, Manager, Admin), and what you should expect to see when you sign in. This saves time in the later steps because you will know which actions are available to your account.

Step 3 — Search the archive

Open the Collaboration Hub and run a few searches:

  • Try a plain keyword search for a topic you care about.
  • Open a result and note its access level, source category, and tags.
  • Filter by tag or by access level to see how results change.

The Search Guide covers every filter and what each field means.

Step 4 — Understand access levels

Before you upload or share anything, make sure you understand the three access levels:

  • Public — visible to everyone, with or without an account.
  • Internal — visible to signed-in users who have protected-search access.
  • Private — visible to the uploader, authorized organization or shared-project members, and administrators.

The Access Levels guide has the full table, including who can change levels and how to request access to a document you cannot see.

Step 5 — Upload a document

If the Upload tool is available to your account, upload an approved, non-sensitive document that belongs in the archive. Do not place throwaway test files in the production catalog.

  • Choose the file and the source category (your organization).
  • Pick the access level appropriate for the document. If you are unsure, use Private and ask a manager.
  • Add tags if you want it to be easy to find later.

The Upload Guide lists required fields, supported formats, and how to fix common upload errors.

Step 6 — Review published outputs

Finally, open Published Outputs and see how published documents appear to the public. Managers can approve accessible uploads; administrators control publication.

The Published Outputs guide explains the approval flow and what a reviewer should check before approving.

Try It Yourself

Once you have read the steps above, do this short checklist with your own account:

  • Search for one keyword and open two results.
  • Note the access level and tags of each result.
  • If you have an approved document and upload access, upload it at the appropriate visibility level.
  • Find it again via search and confirm the metadata you entered.
  • Open Published Outputs and open one public document.

If You Get Stuck

  • Check the Common Issues page first — it covers login problems, upload failures, and search surprises.
  • If the issue is not listed, note what you were doing, what you expected, and what happened, then report it to your manager or a SAGEinfo admin.
